Emma and her son Oscar are buried in unmarked graves in the same plot as Effie Brooks Barton, her sister, and Effie's husband, Tench C. Barton, in Berry Cem., in Georgeetwn, TX In 1900 Emma is living in austin, Tx and working as a nursre at the State Asylum. 1910 - living in San Mateo Co., CA , working as hospital nurse Oct., 1917 - Probate Williamson Co., TX NCM -- This means she was incapable of caring for herself, was appointed a guardian and committed to an institution. juryof 6 in Bexar Co, TX declared her incompetent and ordered confinement in Lunatic Asylum in San antonio. She was pronounced very delusional, , and voilent. Her insanity was considered to be inherited as "her father (Adam Lester Brooks) suicided.
